Dr. Dan D. Challener

President
Public Education Foundation

Dan serves as president of PEF.  He is responsible for the overall direction and programs of the Foundation. Presently, PEF focuses its people and its funds in four areas: college and career success, teacher preparation, leadership development, and professional development of teachers.  He is a member of Leadership Tennessee, the policy and steering committees of TN SCORE,Commissioner Schwinn’s Partnership Cabinet, Tennessee Learning Circle, Downtown Rotary Club, and the Board of Directors of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce and the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga.


Before coming toChattanooga, Dan served for eight years as the CEO of Providence Blueprint for Education (PROBE), a community-based organization that supported and advocated for the improvement of the public schools in Providence, RI. Dan earned a BA from Princeton University and an MA and Ph.D from Brown University. He is the author of Stories of Resilience in Childhood.


Dan is married to an amazing public school teacher and their three children graduated from Hamilton County’s public schools and college.  In his free time, Dan likes to run, hike, fly fish, root for the Red Sox, and read.
