Donna Taheri

College Advancement Mentor
Serving Students at Howard and Chattanooga State

As a College Advancement Mentor, Donna works with Howard senior sand graduates. She is especially passionate about supporting youth who have yet to launch a solid post-secondary career plan.

After graduating from the University of Montevello, in the field of Family and Consumer Science Education, she began her professional career in DeKalb County Schools where she served in various positions. She retired from Alabama with 28 years, having served the last 18 years as the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Coordinator.

In the fall of 2006, Donna accepted a position at The Howard School as the Work Based Learning Coordinator. In the 40 plus years of her career, Donna’s coordinator role has always involved working with city, state and federal government agencies pertaining to youth safety, educational and career opportunities.  After 13 years in that position, Donna “retired” in May 2019. She promised the graduating Class of 2019 that they would always be on her roster, because she would continue to assist in their journey towards reaching their full potential. Donna describes her work at Howard as the most fulfilling assignment of her career, and she continues to maintain close relationships with many former students dating back to the Fall of 2006.

Donna is the mother of Andrew, Matthew and Elizabeth. She is the “Nonna” of four-year old Charlie, three-year old Tay and one-year old Willum. Aside from spending time with the “munchkins"....she enjoys reading, thrifting (adventure shopping,) home décor, and being an Airbnb Superhost for the past five years.
