Mary works in both Development and Communications, working to build relationships with donors and the community. She’s the human behind the @pefchattanooga social media accounts and the PEF newsletter. She enjoys sharing the work of her colleagues and working on advancing the organization.
She got a taste for nonprofit work in college at Emory & Henry where she served as a Bonner Scholar, volunteering for several local nonprofits. After college she worked in Zambia as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where she taught aquaculture and started a GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) Club at the local school to empower girls. She then worked at the Tennessee Aquarium, first in conservation, but gradually moved into a position in the development department. It was here that she discovered she had a passion for nonprofit work, and seeking a career where she could make a difference, she earned a Master’s in Public Administration from UTC.
When Mary isn’t busy asking you if she can pet your dog or defending the Oxford comma, she enjoys being outside, whether on a trail, in a creek, or relaxing on the porch. If itstoo cold, she’s probably inside working on a craft or puzzle wishing it was warmer.
