As a College Advancement Mentor (CAM), Ashley Leverett works closely with the College and Career Advisors to build relationships with seniors at East Ridge High School. Ashley’s work also involves supporting freshmen and sophomores at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (UTC). She is passionate about preparing, motivating, and supporting students with the knowledge to advocate for themselves as they develop secondary career plans. Ashley believes in educating students through practical experiences with accessibility to educational resources.
As a two-time HBCU graduate, Ashley understands the importance of interdependence. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Savannah State University (SSU) in Savannah, GA. Savannah State’s motto at the time of her matriculation was “You can get Anywhere from Here.” Ashley received her Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy from Clark Atlanta University (CAU) in Atlanta, Georgia. CAU’s mottos are “I’ll find a Way or Make One” and “Culture of Service.” These three mottos have supported her own personal mission of being the change that she wants to see in the world. Ashley understands the importance of formal education with practical experiences. She also understands obtaining applicable, educational experience support students being prepared and motivated to excel in their chosen career paths.
Ashley has over 15 years of experience working in education. Over the years, she has served as a mentor for incoming freshmen and sophomores at SSU; worked as mentor for the Educational Talent Search program in Savannah, Georgia; tutored numerous children in various age ranges; and developed the Department of Veterans Affairs’ 1st Student Apprenticeship Pilot program in Washington, D.C. Ashley also taught high school Science in both Georgia and at McMinn County High School in Athens, Tennessee, for a total of 5 years as an educator.
Ashley has been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for 18 years and she is an active member of the Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She enjoys volunteering her time within the community and traveling. Ashley is a “Foodie,” so she loves trying new foods and cooking. She was raised in both Athens, TN, and Lincolnton, GA, and comes from a large family. Ashley loves to spend time with her family and friends.
