Innovative Learning Specialist

The role of Innovative Learning Specialist at PEF is crucial to our mission of transforming public education. The successful candidate will engage directly with educators, administrators, and, on occasion, students. This individual will provide 1-on-1 coaching and resource support for digital fabrication lab teachers, assist with development and facilitation of professional learning for teachers and school administrators, and support the documentation and sharing of impact stories across a diverse range of schools.

How to Apply


  • This is a full-time, year-round, and salaried position.

  • The role is hybrid, requiring a presence in schools and the PEF office in Chattanooga, TN, with significant flexibility to accommodate remote work arrangements.

  • The role does not require out of state travel, but all PEF team members are expected to engage in personal professional development that may result in some travel.

  • Retirement: After one full year of employment, PEF will contribute an amount equal to 7.5% of the employee’s salary to a managed retirement account (currently with American Funds). The employee may begin to contribute to that account immediately upon employment with PEF.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $50,500 to 59,500. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, market, and budget.

Desired Qualifications

VW eLab Network Support

  • Provide one-on-one support to VW eLab Specialists—the lead teachers who run the school-based FabLabs in Hamilton County Schools and the surrounding region.

  • Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies to assist educators with emerging trends in digital fabrication and educational technology.

  • Contribute to the continued development and implementation of FabFolio—a new web-based student/teacher feedback tool for micro-credentialing and student portfolio development.

Create Extraordinary Experiences

  • Design and implement unique, personalized experiences for educators and school leaders participating in PEF's professional development programs, inspired by the principles outlined in Will Guidara’s book, "Unreasonable Hospitality."

  • Act as a "dream weaver," ensuring these experiences exceed expectations and leave a lasting, positive impact on participants.

Story Discovery and Documentation

  • Conduct regular visits to schools within our network to interact with teachers, principals, and students.

  • Identify and gather compelling stories, interviews, photographs, and videos that illustrate the impact of innovative educational practices.

  • Collaborate with the Innovative Learning team and PEF Marketing team to craft engaging content that highlight student successes and transformative teaching practices aligned with PEF’s Marketing Goals and Guidelines.
