Leadership is a team activity.
This is one of the greatest lessons of Hamilton County’s recent school progress: a principal cannot transform a school single-handedly. Transformation requires a team of people who share a vision and take leadership roles to make that vision come true.
With funding from the Annenberg Foundation, PEF’s Leadership Initiative provides many different types of training and resources to help principals and other school leaders understand effective leadership – from offering constructive criticism to leading productive meetings.
Leadership Elements
Principals, assistant principals, school leaders and teachers benefit from a series of workshops, retreats, in-school observation and training, study groups and mentoring hosted and paid for by PEF. Elements of the initiative include:
- Leadership Fellows – a year-long training program for educators who want to become school leaders
- Leadership Institutes – Three learning retreats per year, one for principals, one for principals and other school leaders, and one for school literacy leaders
- Networked Learning Communities – three groups of schools meet regularly to streamline K-12 transitions and focus on literacy
- Book Club – groups of educators meet to discuss and learn from current literature on effective leadership
