About the campaign
Excellent Teachers is a campaign to raise awareness of the many excellent teachers serving in Hamilton County public schools and of the Public Education Foundation’s role in helping to bring excellent teaching practices to every classroom.
Twenty teachers are being featured. Through the end of October, their life-size likenesses can be found at various BI-LO stores throughout the region, at Unum offices, and at the Public Education Foundation offices. (See attached list for specific teacher/location information.)
More information about these outstanding teachers, including short video podcasts of them in action, can be found at www.pefchattanooga.org/Excellent Teachers
Throughout the year, these teachers will also be featured in a “Teacher Spotlight” column in Chattanooga Parent magazine.
The program is being sponsored by the Public Education Foundation. PEF partners with Hamilton County Schools to help students succeed by offering professional training and coaching for teachers, principals and administrators; human and financial resources to promote research-based innovation; and research that promotes continuous achievement. Over the past 20 years, PEF has helped to bring millions of dollars in supplemental, philanthropic funding to the school system.
PEF is a local non-profit dedicated to improving student achievement in Hamilton County Schools

“Due to the funds that were provided…
…for us by the Benwood Initiative, we’ve been able to provide some of the best research-based workshops for our teachers to implement reading strategies in the classroom, and we’ve established a literacy block which is two hours per day, every day, for all of our students.”
