Volunteer
Want to help students succeed?
Join our new volunteer program and become a part of the Public Education Foundation’s efforts to improve student achievement in Hamilton County schools.
You don’t have to be an expert to make a difference. We'll provide you with on-going training and support. All you need is an enthusiasm for education, to be 18 years of age or older, and to undergo a simple screening process. You can make an impact that will last for generations!
Current Opportunities:
**Volunteers Needed Now!** Senior Project Panel Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to serve on panels to help evaluate students' senior project presentations. This project and presentation helps high school students to learn necessary academic and life skills. Volunteers will serve as the audience for the presentation, ask questions, and complete a brief evaluation form. Each shift is only one hour! You can sign up for just one or multiple shifts between 8:00am-4:00pm on May 1 and 2, 2012. Please let us know if you have experience in a certain area, and we will try to match you with a project topic. This is an excellent way to interact with youth, share your knowledge and experience, and learn something new!
College Coach Volunteers
Work alongside a College Advisor in one of our public high schools on a variety of projects geared towards getting students prepared for and into a college that best meets their goals and dreams. Projects include mentoring, connecting students with financial aid, guiding students through career- and college-matching programs, coordinating college fairs, assisting students with applications, providing administrative support to the advisor, and more!
Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours a week; all shifts are during the school day
Skill requirements: General administrative experience (filing, copies, etc.), good computer skills, ability to work independently
Be a leader of a College Coach Circle, and work with a small group of ninth graders on activities that help students identify their goals, develop study skills, prepare for college, and explore career options.

“Due to the funds that were provided…
…for us by the Benwood Initiative, we’ve been able to provide some of the best research-based workshops for our teachers to implement reading strategies in the classroom, and we’ve established a literacy block which is two hours per day, every day, for all of our students.”
