Technical Schools and Apprenticeship Programs
Page Under Construction!
Our goal for you is that you will have some type of training or education after you graduate high school so that you will be more likely to find a good job - one that has decent pay and benefits.
Technical Schools
Going through a technical or trade program prepares you for a specific occupation, such as a cosmetologist, massage therapist, diesel mechanic, etc. These are many, many possibilities. Most of these programs are one year in length, and involve mostly hands on work. When you graduate, the school will help you find a career in your chosen field.
Apprenticeship Programs
“Earn while you learn” - All apprenticeship programs offer you the opportunity to get paid while you learn the trade. Training usually includes job experience as well as classroom instruction. Many programs also offer benefits to apprentice workers.
Application and Qualifications - It is important that you contact the program that you are interested in. Some take applications year round, while others only issue a “call” for applications at certain periods during the year. To qualify, you must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Some also have a reading and math entrance exam that you must pass before being considered.
PEF is a local non-profit dedicated to improving student achievement in Hamilton County Schools

“Due to the funds that were provided…
…for us by the Benwood Initiative, we’ve been able to provide some of the best research-based workshops for our teachers to implement reading strategies in the classroom, and we’ve established a literacy block which is two hours per day, every day, for all of our students.”
