History

Strong Roots, New Directions

Originally founded in 2001 as a separate nonprofit organization, Passport Scholars Foundation merged with the College Access Center in August 2005. PEF welcomed the program as part of its merger with the College Access Center in summer of 2009. In addition to funding the summer programs, Passport Scholars helps the participating girls set and achieve long-term goals and offers one-on-one mentoring and college counseling.

The First Class

The first class of Passport girls participated in summer programs in 2001. Five girls were matched with programs that varied in focus from academic studies to wilderness adventures to community service.

Current Class

In 2011, nine girls have been accepted into the Passport Scholars Program and will participate in rigorous academic enrichment programs around the United States.
