Over 200 Hamilton County principals and teachers have participated in the PEF Leadership Fellows program since it began in 1998. This joint effort between PEF and Hamilton County Schools has prepared a new generation of leaders for the district, including:
- 36 Principals
- 105 Teachers
- 46 Assistant Principals
- 43 Teacher Leaders*
*includes Change Coaches, Consulting Teachers, Lead Teachers and Literacy Coaches
The year-long, twenty-day Leadership Fellows program is designed to give emerging school leaders in Hamilton County the skills and knowledge needed to participate in decision-making and school improvement. Serving around 30 educators per year, the program involves monthly workshops, job shadowing, school visits, mentoring, study groups, leadership projects, presentations and a portfolio. Leadership Fellows are chosen through a strict selection process by a committee that includes a principal, an HCDE Central Office employee and a community representative.
The PEF Leadership Initiative helps educators learn the skills to become good leaders, but it does not guarantee a position of leadership or promotion. The Hamilton County Department of Education selects and places all administrators in schools.
