I plugged it in, and ran a whole lot of quarter-sawn white oak through it within 1-5 minutes (had to peek through the directions first). Smooth area, zero snipe, comparatively quiet, and it did not even break a sweat on 9-inch oak planks.
I initially purchased the Delta, and returned it promptly. The Makita 2012NB is exactly what a portable planer needs to be.
I picked the Makita 2012NB mainly on the grounds of the reviews within Amazon. My observations fit most other reviewers — nicely-designed, quiet, simple cuts, minimum snipe, etc.
An attractive tool which creates wonderful work, and is worth it is somewhat higher price tag when compared with the competition (Delta, Dewalt, Ridgid, etc.).
I concur wholeheartedly with all the preceding reviews. Simple set up, user friendly attributes, and really very silent. It cleaned-up some oak from pallets that I’d gathered and now I ‘ve some lovely, level and all the same thickness wood looking forward to a job!
